WebJan 1, 1984 · These chiral 2-amino-i-alcohols reacted with diethylzinc at room temperature in toluene to give ethylzinc monoalkoxide, [C2H5ZnOCH2CHRNH2] (n: 2 or 4), which was assumed to be the real active species for the asymmetric addition reaction of diethylzinc to benzaldehyde. Results of a detailed study of the reaction will be published elsewhere. Diethylzinc (C2H5)2Zn, or DEZ, is a highly pyrophoric and reactive organozinc compound consisting of a zinc center bound to two ethyl groups.
